Michelle Singleton
Founder & Executive Director

Picture
Michelle founded A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary after beginning to volunteer at a local farm sanctuary in September 2017. That experience had a profound impact on her life, inspiring not only the creation of the sanctuary but also her transition to a vegan lifestyle after six years as a vegetarian. Michelle is the proud mother of a daughter and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to raise her in a compassionate, animal-centered environment. In addition to her work with the sanctuary, Michelle works part-time as Team Leader of Process Improvement for the Laboratories at Island Health and serves as the Sanctuary Representative for P.E.A.C.E. (People Ensuring Animal Care Exists). A dedicated advocate for animals, Michelle believes education is essential to advancing animal welfare, promoting health, and protecting the environment.

Board of Directors

Stephanie Gordon
President

Picture
Steph joined A Home for Hooves as a volunteer in 2020 and became a board member in February 2021. In November 2025, she stepped into the role of president and is excited for what lies ahead. A committed vegan and passionate animal advocate, she draws inspiration from the sanctuary’s mission to give farmed animals a second chance and to expand awareness of their welfare.
Working closely with Executive Director Michelle, Steph helps develop initiatives that strengthen community engagement and highlight the sanctuary’s impact. She also leads the monthly sponsorship program with Nancy Bourne, connecting donors with the individual stories of the animals they support and showing how their contributions create meaningful change.
Steph is dedicated to fostering a future where compassion for farmed animals continues to grow. Through her leadership, she hopes to deepen understanding, inspire involvement, and build a more connected community of people who care deeply about the animals who call the sanctuary home.

Sarah Davis
Vice President

Picture
Sarah Davis is the Vice President of the Board of Directors for A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary, where she has been a dedicated volunteer since 2017. Her long-standing commitment to the sanctuary reflects both her compassion for animals and her belief in the power of humane education. Sarah previously served as Secretary on the Board before stepping into her current leadership role.
A lifelong vegetarian and vegan since 2015, Sarah is deeply aligned with the values of farmed animal sanctuaries. She believes these spaces play a vital role in fostering meaningful connections between people and animals.
Professionally, Sarah has been a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for almost 20 years.  Sarah lives in the Cowichan Valley with her family.

Brandi M
Secretary

Picture
Brandi joined Home for Hooves in 2025 and as Secretary supports effective governance through careful documentation, clear communication, and organizational oversight. With a background in the legal field and experience in both project and contract management, Brandi brings her strong attention to detail, organization, accountability, and compliance to the board’s work so the sanctuary can focus on what matters most — the animals.
Brandi is deeply committed to animal advocacy and compassionate living. She has been vegan for 10 years and is a devoted cat mom to rescued cats. Brandi is honored to support a sanctuary dedicated to providing lifelong care, safety, and dignity to rescued animals, and proud to contribute to an organization grounded in transparency, integrity, and respect for all beings.

Nancy Bourne
Treasurer

Picture
A volunteer since 2024, Nancy has primarily been involved in fundraising. She put ‘boots on the ground’ cutting and distributing produce once a week commencing July, 2025 and joined the board in November of 2025. A devoted cat guardian, she loves all animals and was on the executive and walks dogs for another charity; chaired the fundraising and outreach committee for a wildlife rehab centre for several years; transports wild animals for two wildlife centres; volunteered at a local animal shelter; and has worked with children her whole adult life. Getting to know farmed animals has been a new and joyous experience for her which makes her even more determined to advocate for animals and veganism.

Ashlee Felgate
Director at Large

Picture
Ashlee began volunteering at Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary in 2018, driven by a desire to contribute to work that makes a tangible difference for animals. As her involvement grew, she joined the board in 2019 to help ensure the sanctuary remains a forever home where rescued, abandoned, and surrendered farmed animals can live out their natural lives in safety and care.
In addition to her board role, she remains an active volunteer, focusing on special projects and grounds care to maintain a natural and enriching environment for the residents. Outside of the sanctuary, she works as a nurse with Island Health. To her, this space is vital for the transformation, rehabilitation, and advocacy of animals often unseen or undervalued. Since the sanctuary moved to a larger property in 2024, she has been excited to see new projects take shape, allowing for more rescues and a deeper impact within the community.

Jay Muir
Director at Large

Picture
Jay grew up on Vancouver Island and has always demonstrated a great love of animals and wildlife. He started volunteering with A Home for Hooves in 2020 and joined the Board of Directors in 2021 before leaving the province in 2022 to attend veterinary school. He remains committed to the Sanctuary and its work, and has stayed on as a remote member of the Board. An upper year student, Jay hopes to work in wildlife rehabilitation and animal sanctuary once graduated. He is also a wildlife and portrait artist and contributed several murals to the sanctuary at its previous location. He is involved with activism for the queer and transgender community, notably by organizing activities at the University of Montreal's vet school to highlight the importance of diversity in veterinary medicine.
Jay enjoys hiking, bird-watching and other activities in nature in his free time. Jay contributes to the Board by bringing his perspective as an animal care professional to decisions involving animal well-being, housing and husbandry.

Corie Kielbiski

Director at Large

Picture
Corie is a passionate and dedicated vegan, animal rights and social justice advocate with experience in strategic thinking, policy, fundraising, communication, and collaboration. In 2018, Corie and her partner founded the Vancouver Island Vegan Association (VIVA) where Corie served as a director until the society was dissolved in 2025. With VIVA, Corie helped to organize entirely non-profit community events including the annual Vegtoria vegan festival, community gatherings, fundraisers, and other creative endeavors to raise funds for local animal sanctuaries, including A Home for Hooves.
Corie is proud to step into this role and to support the mission, values, and goals of the sanctuary.
