Autumn

Autumn was listed for free on "usedvictoria" because she had reached the age of 18 months and was deemed no longer useful for egg production.  When she arrived, with 10 other hens, she was completely covered with lice and had a serious case of leg mites.  She has now fully recovered from these infestations and lives with the forest birds.

Her best friend is our volunteer Jana and she always comes running as soon as she spots her.

Elvis came into our care when he became a rooster rather than a hen.  Due to noise bylaws he could not be kept at his first home and was about to be destroyed.  Fortunately, he was rescued in time and spends his days hanging with his BFF Presley.

Goldie

Goldie was abandoned in Skutz falls along with other roosters and older laying hens.  One of our volunteers saw them dumped on a trail but was only able to catch her and 2 roosters!  Unfortunately, when our volunteer got back to try and catch the other chickens they had been killed by a predator.

Goldie is an Orpington chicken and she has a very British personality.

Harriet

Harriet has a condition called "crossbeak".  She came into our care because her previous caretaker was unable to meet the dietary needs required for her disability.  When Harriet arrived she was only 2 pounds despite being fully grown.  Over 7 months she was tube fed three times a day in order to bring her weight up to a healthy 3.5 pounds.  Once a healthy weight was achieved she learned how to eat "mash" and is now able to feed herself with no human intervention.

Rusty

Rusty was abandoned in Skutz falls along with other roosters and older laying hens.  One of our volunteers saw them dumped on a trail but was only able to catch another rooster and one of the hens.  He rushed Rusty to the Sanctuary as he had several lacerations and puncture wounds sustained from a predator attack.  Unfortunately, when our volunteer got back to try and catch the other chickens they had been killed by a predator.

Rusty is very much a ladies' man who loves telling the hens he's found a tasty treat by doing his signature cluck to notify them of the find.
