This October, we received an emergency intake, a tiny piglet we named Francesca. Born on a pig farm, Francesca’s life was never meant to be her own. Francesca’s life, like that of many farmed animals, was expected to be shaped by profit rather than personality. Yet destiny opened a different chapter for her. When Francesca was only two days old, tragedy struck. She was accidentally stepped on by her mother, leaving her with a devastating injury that exposed her intestines. Instead of receiving proper medical care, her intestines were pushed back in and closed with a butterfly bandage. Against all odds, she survived the initial trauma. When the wound reopened, it became a twist of fate that likely saved her life. By the time she arrived at A Home for Hooves, it was clear she was a medical marvel. What should have been the end of her story became the beginning of a new chapter. With the dedicated care from our team, the expertise of our wonderful veterinarian Dr. Petra, and the incredible generosity of donors who stepped forward to support her surgeries and recovery, Francesca was given every chance to heal. What could have been the end of her journey transformed into a future filled with hope, compassion, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. Francesca’s story is what sanctuaries are all about. We exist to give animals like her a second chance at life, a chance to be seen, loved, and valued for who they are. While many animals in agriculture never receive the care they deserve, Francesca’s resilience was noticed, celebrated, and nurtured. Here, her needs are met, her individuality is honored, and her future is filled with possibility. Every animal who comes through our gates reminds us why sanctuaries matter. They are places of refuge, compassion, and transformation. Francesca is proof that when given the opportunity, even the most vulnerable lives can flourish. ✨ This is the heart of sanctuary work: turning survival into joy, and giving every animal the dignity they deserve. Francesca’s journey is a powerful reminder of what kindness can achieve. If you’d like to be part of Francesca’s story and help us continue offering second chances to animals like her, please consider supporting our mission. Your generosity ensures that stories like hers don’t end in tragedy, but in hope! Be Kind to Every Kind
