Farm animals are the most exploited animals on the planet. They experience abuse, neglect, and unspeakable horrors that many of us could never fathom. You can help change that.
Last year, at the end of October, we accepted nearly 100 farm animals into our care. This was a massive undertaking that happened much sooner than originally anticipated and we urgently need your help.
A Home for Hooves is currently located on less than 5 acres of leased land. We were already home to 60 rescued farm animals and simply did not have the room for 100 more.
As Canada’s first and only farm sanctuary accredited through the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, we are uniquely positioned to care for these animals. But we need your help. We urgently need to purchase a 50+ acre property located on southern Vancouver Island.
The Urgent Need for a New Sanctuary
We have now outgrown our leased 4.47 acre location. We do not have enough room for all the new animals and we are turning animals away daily. We are now in desperate need of a property with the following requirements:
50+ acres
Zoned for agriculture
Located between Nanaimo and Sooke on Vancouver Island
High producing well(s)
Barn(s)
Perimeter Fence
Accommodation for Sanctuary caretakers
Pond(s) to allow the waterfowl to swim and dive, freeing them to exhibit their natural behaviour.
How Will Your Donation Help?
Your gift can help us secure an appropriate property and aid with the building of a medical unit to provide a high standard of animal care including top notch sanitization protocols and a quarantine area. Your generosity would give vulnerable animals a warm barn to sleep in which is incredibly important for older animals, especially during the colder months. There would be vast gardens to help meet the animals' dietary and health needs on site and we would have hay to bale in preparation for fall and winter, reducing our reliance on external sources. A new property would also allow us the space to offer more tours, community outreach, and humane education programs.
